Hello!
I'm starting the planning of a house project now and figuring out what is smartest. We have the option to place the house either on top of a hill/ridge or position the house at the back of the ridge in the form of a split-level house.

I'm thinking this: The advantage of the split-level house is that I would get an entry/exit at ground level at the back, which would also be the level where the garden/lawn will be. The advantage of placing the house on top of the ridge would be better height and less earthwork.

Can you help me with arguments for one or the other option?

When it comes to the interior layout, it becomes much easier if the entrance, kitchen, laundry, a bedroom, and living room naturally exist on the same floor, as accessibility regulations require this. Also, consider that it should either be possible to drive a car to be level with the entrance, or it must be possible to have an accessibility-adapted ramp leading to the front door.
