Spackling outer corners with corner guards

Hello!

I have tried wide putty for the first time
Now I've come to an outer corner. I've attached a metal corner guard and started plastering.

The wide puttying is going well but slowly; patience is a virtue, etc.
After 2 layers of putty, I'm a bit unsure of what to do with that darn corner guard.

Is it supposed to look like that and then you paint over the metal edge?
Or am I expected to slap on more putty to cover over the edge as well?

It seems difficult to putty over it, so I'm hoping you just paint over it

It's just painted over.

Make sure to spread the filler out evenly and sand smoothly with the edge. Otherwise, it's easy for a small dent to form next to the edge.
