Hello!
I wonder if anyone here on the forum has used Fermacell fiber gypsum and how you have puttyed them. These boards are not so easy to find and even harder is to find their recommended products for puttying or joining. Can you use products for regular gypsum boards (coarse putty, fine putty, etc.) and will the result be just as good?
Thanks in advance.

If you want to be precise, use the filler recommended by the manufacturer. If you find a retailer that has it on the shelf, check carefully to ensure that the expiration date has not passed.

Fermacell indicates a shelf life of 1 year, I believe it was, but it's very unclearly marked on the can. It's a numerical code, which you basically have to contact Fermacell to find out the manufacturing date.

Completely crazy in my opinion.

The filler is not particularly expensive and easy to work with, so there is no reason to take a chance on another non-recommended product, which in the end may not work as desired.

Your profile doesn't indicate where you live, feel free to update it, but if you live in Skåne, I can suggest some hardware stores that keep the filler in stock.

Welcome here!

If you're going to follow their recommendations, first it's fermacell SK spackle and then fermacell joint filler with fermacell paper tape in the joints, and then after that, skim coating with fermacell fine spackle...

I used some board in a bathroom (I think it was fermacell but I'm a little unsure since it was from some clearance sale at Bauhaus...) and I used regular bathroom spackle and it's still hanging up today (painted wall)...

I think XLBygg had fermacell in some advertisement flyer but don't ask me which year I saw it...

Thanks for the answer. I'm from Helsingborg. I tried to find retailers on their website but it didn't provide a list. Do you know who carries their coarse and fine putty?
What do you think of their boards, do they live up to what Fermacell promises? I'm looking for an easy way to screw onto walls while also having good sound insulation.

Thank you!
I find the discs at several retailers, but it's much harder with their accessories. You want to follow the manufacturer's recommendations, but it becomes a bit difficult when you can't find the products. When you ask those who sell their discs, they have no idea if it works with regular spackel or not. Many also thought that they were selling completely ordinary expensive gypsum boards :) When you get such answers, you don't trust what they say anymore. But with you, it seems to work. I'll see, if I find nothing, I'll have to try with regular products.

I would be very surprised if regular spackel doesn't work just as well. However, keep in mind to choose spackel according to the space, bathroom, basement, garage, etc...

Thank you for your answers. I also got in touch with Fermacell and they said there should be no problem using a different brand of filler or other materials used when working with plasterboards. Other manufacturers also have fillers that are more suitable for working with fibergips.

Yes, I also received a response from Fermacell that another filler was approved by Fermacell, don't remember which brand now, BUT only as a fine filler on top of Fermacell's own filler that should be at the base.
Apparently different answers depending on who responds at Fermacell....

PoG in Södra Sandby had filler etc. in stock.

XL in Skurup has 900 boards + filler in stock.

The board is HEAVY and good to screw into without plugs - good load-bearing capacity.

If you are going to work with it alone, I recommend a 900 width - otherwise, it will be heavy to handle.

Virkeshuset in Järlåsa, 2 miles west of Uppsala, also has in stock

Better late than never :-)

It feels like a bit of an uphill battle for TS to pick up in Uppsala since he lived in Helsingborg.
It was quite some time ago that the thread was active. It would be fun if TS followed up on what he thought about the disc, which spackel he chose and if he is satisfied with the result.

Half a year later, I can now say that the result turned out very well. We used fermacell boards with straight edges for both walls and ceiling. These were glued with fermacell greenline adhesive. Full surface filling of all boards with sadolin filler (fine).

Hi!
Curious about how it turned out with straight edges, don't the joints show very clearly in raking light? Getting hold of boards with recessed long sides is quite difficult compared to straight edges...

Hello!
The seams between boards with straight edges that are glued are not noticeable at all.
I have looked through the pictures. There are actually straight edges only on the walls. For the ceiling, we used boards with recessed long sides. The short sides were glued. These were ordered from Beijer and took a few days to arrive. If you check their orange book or installation guide, it seems that boards with a straight edge are only used on walls. Otherwise, call Fermacell and ask if you can use these for ceilings as well, they were very helpful when I talked to them.

Hi! I will apply on walls, perhaps I was unclear :) I called and talked to them, and they recommended using straight edges if you plan to skim coat over, as there is no advantage to choosing those with recessed edges. I will buy a few boards and test them before buying too many in case I am dissatisfied.

I called and talked to them and they recommended straight edges if you're planning to apply a broad coat over it, then there's no advantage in choosing beveled edges.
I'll buy a few sheets and test before buying too much in case I'm dissatisfied.
In that case, there are no problems at all. As I said, I've used it throughout the house when we renovated.
It is a bit more work with these since they need to be broadly coated. It's also heavy and generates dust when you cut them. It's also relatively new in Sweden, which is why people choose to use regular plasterboard. It is definitely easier to work with regular plasterboard.
In hindsight, I still think it was a good choice as they have very good sound insulation and can handle quite a lot of load.
