Simple plasterboard + stud = double plasterboard?
Drilled two holes in gypsum ceiling tiles, one in the living room and the other in the kitchen (both with a stud/wood panel above, so you first need a masonry drill bit and then a wood drill bit).
The one in the kitchen I measured to be 23mm while the one in the living room is 20mm, wondering which expander I should use (I assume Double for both).

Depends on what you are attaching, where there is a 20mm ceiling the legs of the molly expander will be overstretched a bit and it loses some strength, but if it's nothing very heavy it will probably still hold. I would use double drywall anchors for lamps and look for studs for heavy items.

There are ready-made lamp hooks with a spring-loaded retractable arm. I believe it can handle a larger thickness range. Unsure if it can carry more than a molly.
