Hello!

Currently in the process of tearing out damaged floor joists in the summer cottage, and once that's done, I'm thinking of attempting to replace the moisture-damaged sill from the inside now that I've opened up the crawl space.
A bit unsure about the smoothest way to do this.. What I don't quite understand is how I can brace or lift the wall section while cutting off piece by piece of the sill. Anyone have tips or done this before? See picture

Regards, Thomas

A few props in the inner ceiling near the outer wall where you are going to replace the sill?

When I replaced my sills, I did it that way. Also replaced the inner ceiling by the way, so I had beams to easily set the prop against.

Thanks for the tip. Just as you say, in that case, I should probably find the beams in the attic floor, but it should work.

Press the stamp against 2 screwed-together 45x195s so you don't have to locate the rafters; if the ceiling is sparsely boarded, you need to place it at a sparse section. Often it is directly adjacent to the interior wall cladding.

Ok, sounds like a good idea, thanks for that, Lutte. Do I have to cut the horizontal wall plate to replace the sill, or is there a trick to avoid that? The sill has dimensions of 100 x 120 mm which seems highly unusual. Is it okay to screw and glue two 45 x 120 mm studs together and use them as a sill (losing 10 mm in width)?
