Working on one wall of the garage right now.

I read that I should leave 2mm between the OSB boards.

But should the boards float a bit above the concrete floor, or can they stand directly on it, which would make the project easier?

Hello.

I don't know what's right or wrong. I'm currently renovating the basement myself and I'm about to start installing interior walls. I plan to set the OSB boards a couple of mm above the concrete floor to minimize the risk of moisture.

Do you have sill insulation under the sill plate? If you answer yes, do you think you should place other wood on the concrete?

Place two pieces of masonite that you stand the board on, attach it with screws in the middle and upwards, remove the masonite pieces (before you screw all the way down, easier to remove them when you can bend the board a little).

And if you don't have masonite, use a dismantled folding rule, or anything that's a few millimeters thick.

Ok. A few mm above.

But... The next step will be renovation gypsum, should it also hover?

What if you're standing and wetting the floor, it's not really great for the water to bypass the boards and dampen the studs instead?

Or do you usually run silicone at the bottom?

I can tell you about my plan.

I have a vapor barrier in the garage, behind the osb board, then regular gypsum board GN 13.5 (or whatever it's called, gyproc anyway).
This plastic is folded out on the floor.
I plan to cut it about 4cm outside the gypsum board, fold it up, and staple it.
Seal the gap with some universal sealant, probably the black Sikaflex ATconnection that I used for the ridge tiles (there was a tube left over).
Nail a painted baseboard of a simple model a few mm above the slab.

I should probably add that I don't know if that's the usual way to do it, probably not, too much fiddling for the normal carpenter. How much are you going to splash?

But I know there is sill insulation with a pre-made edge for the interior boards.
But when I was about to build the garage, it wasn't available at the local builder's merchant and took too long to order. I think it's called sill protection.
