In a basement room, we need to redo the plaster. I've taken down all the plaster that was loose, and there are quite large sections. Now I'm wondering if everything should be knocked down? Any experienced mason who knows?

Everything loose has to come down. It looks like it was attached very poorly; how is the remaining part holding up?

The part that remains is firmly in place. I might have taken down a bit more than necessary.
