How can I build a shelf without brackets? I have an idea with a batten that is screwed into the wall on which the shelf is then placed. This way, I can make it hollow and insert LEDs or similar.
Is it possible to build something like this and if so, what material should the shelves be made of that is light enough but still strong enough? The shelf should be about 15-17 cm out from the wall.

If you don't want to build, maybe IKEA's shelf series 'Lack' could be something for the purpose?
