Hello, I am in the process of bricking in a fireplace insert, and now I want to shape the lightweight concrete so it looks nice. I bought a band saw and don't want to ruin more machines than that, so I'm trying to work by hand. In the picture, I tried to make a pillar that will sit next to the fireplace. The roller on the left in the picture will probably be okay, 45° worked pretty well; the tool is at the top right, glued together a 45x70 with a plywood saw cut a notch and pushed down a spatula. Just under the 45 grader is a "rounder" that also works pretty well; you first file the edge and then "plane" with the rounder. I made a small test piece visible in the picture. But the grooves in the pillar turned out worse. Here you would need to be able to extend the blade as you get the groove deeper. I first tried with the rasp, but it didn’t turn out well. How should one make a tool holder for a blade that doesn’t have too difficult a fastening and then make it adjustable in depth? Does anyone have any idea, is there something ready-made? I looked on the plane shelf to see if I could take one and modify it. Sure, the optimal would be a router, but the grooves in the pillar are 2cm wide, so it probably has to be a router with a 12mm attachment, and my Trend is a bit too expensive to ruin. The band saw cost 3900:- I thought that should be enough for a destruction budget.
