Question 1:
How can you tell the difference between firebrick and regular brick?

Of course, the chimney sweep can answer that, but I'm wondering if someone on the forum is knowledgeable on the subject. :)

A bit of background:
I live in a newly purchased house where the oil burner has been replaced with geothermal heating. Now my partner and I are planning to install a stove and connect it to the chimney that was previously used for the oil burner.

The chimney is masonry, and I think the bricks look a bit different from regular house bricks.

According to the previous owner, "it is prepared for a stove," and there is a hole made in one of the channels so you can mount the stove.

Question 2:
If it's regular brick, can you then install a flue liner in the chimney to prevent the bricks from cracking, or do you need to rebuild the entire chimney?

I haven't received a response on the forum yet.

My partner and I have ordered a fireplace and installation from Eldabutiken in Haninge, and I asked them.

Apparently, the chimney doesn't need to be built from fireproof bricks; the important thing is that the firebox, which has direct contact with the fire, is made with fireproof bricks.

Edit: So we still don't know if the chimney is made of fireproof or regular bricks, but according to Eldabutiken, it shouldn't matter.
