Rock outcrops perhaps, so it became too expensive to build a basement there.
How large is the bricked-up part in your place? This is around 10 square meters. There could definitely be a stone there, it's built on a gravel ridge, so there's practically no rock in the ground here (almost all neighbors on the street have dug a pool, including me, and there has been no rock in the way).B blue.b said:

If there are mountains in the way or large boulders, you can use "smygdynamit" to break them into smaller pieces that can be moved aside more easily. A friend did that when he put in a new floor in his kitchen, in a house that was about 150 years old around 25 years ago. He drilled holes in the stones first so he could insert the "dynamite." No permit was needed for blasting when using "smygdynamit" back then at least.
