I have built gate posts as shown in the picture below.
I haven't quite decided yet whether I want them as they are or to fill in the gaps between the pillar blocks to get a smooth post.

If I wanted to do that, should I fill them in with concrete, mortar, plaster or what is the best alternative?

A metal gate and stone pillar with visible gaps between the pillar blocks, set in a natural outdoor environment with trees and rocks.

It would probably be difficult to build something in those small grooves. Maybe mosaic?

Maybe it shows better in this picture.
I have googled and found that there is something called concrete filler. Could that perhaps be something?
Concrete wall and pillar with visible seams in need of repair, possibly related to discussion about using concrete filler or patching methods.

Nice gates but the posts... There are real ones to buy:

What do you mean? That I should tear down the posts and buy new ones?
The question was what is best to fill the joints with.

Nice posts! I would have tried plaster and almost aimed for an uneven surface to create some life in them. A lantern on top could also fit, and you can plaster in any cable.

Not an expert but I strongly doubt that you get something that lasts in the long run by filling the gaps with mortar, the alternative as I see it is probably to mesh and plaster the entire post.

Thanks, cable is already installed :)
Laser level on tripod in front of a metal gate, with cables visibly installed around a concrete pillar in a wooded area.

No, that might be too much. It was more of a tip for others reading the thread.

With lighting, plaster, and paint, it will probably be just fine!

Difficult to plaster thick. It's easier to get a good surface if you fill in the joints about 1 day before. Use the same material that you plan to plaster with.

Are you going to mesh? Fiber-reinforced? In any case, don't use plaster c, you'll need a or b. But I'm no expert.

Don't know. I've never plastered before. I was thinking of trying it if someone just gives suggestions on how to do it :)

I used concrete filler when we renovated the kitchen in the apartment before, very handy as opposed to plaster :p

Nowadays, I've somewhat gotten the hang of plaster, but an alternative could be to coat the posts :)

I have probably gotten the hang of plaster somewhat today, but an alternative is to slamma the posts :)
What is the difference between plastering and slamma them?
