Hello,

I am planning to seal off a door opening. I have already removed the door trim and door frame and am considering how to set up the studs. The door opening was quite deep (22.5cm, so about 20cm after accounting for the drywall to be installed). What's the best method for framing it? Most studs aren't anywhere near that "deep." Do I need to set up two frame structures?

195mm rule plus plasterboard becomes approximately 219.5mm.

Then about 3cm is missing. Just fill it up with spackle or?

Follow-up question: How would you insulate? Want to go with a budget option so I was thinking of something like mineral wool, but it will be many layers if you're going to fill up 20cm.

Osb behind the drywall and you'll be set! ☺️ The 2-3mm per side can be filled with putty.

I got a bit unsure, but mineral wool is available in 195mm, right?

21.95 and 22.5 is just 6mm, right?

Haha, you're absolutely right. My brain wasn't quite on the ball with the conversion there :)

Then he should take a narrower frame, otherwise it bulges quite a bit.

I would definitely have set two frames with thinner studs. The insulation doesn't have to fill the space, the important thing is to have something so it doesn't become a resonance box. Preferably mineral wool, which dampens better than fiberglass.
