I'm working on insulating the upper floor which has sloped ceilings with 120 cm spacing between the trusses. I'm placing insulation boards horizontally and am having trouble keeping them in place.
After that, I plan to add a vapor barrier and use battens.
I've heard that you can use string to hold the boards in place.
How can I best run the string—is it with a zig-zag pattern?
Also, what string is cheapest yet strong enough?
I will be placing 195 mm boards and then 45 mm on top of that.

I used masonry string (29 SEK/roll at Byggmax) and stapled it with a staple gun.
Zigzag just as you described, but not over a length as large as 120 cm.
I think you might find it difficult to keep the boards up even with masonry string.
I would have installed a 45" batten while inserting the 195 insulation "little by little" so that
it would hold the 195 boards in place.

It all depends on what type of construction you plan to have on the inside, horizontal or vertical paneling or boards.
We have horizontal paneling (without a sparse panel) and have 215mm insulation, 120cc on the rafters, and we put up the plastic for the first row with a temporary board/batten to prevent sagging. Then we installed insulation, 120mm + 95mm, in one to two rows (think upward) and then lifted the plastic and stapled it, attached temporary battens, and repeated the process.
