Is there anyone who can help me calculate the dimensions to support a patio roof?
What I want to do is build a roof in the same way as on the house, i.e., plywood, roofing felt, and concrete tiles.
I currently have two posts with a distance of 3.5m between them. In between, I want to place a beam (blue line on the drawing) and then between the house and that beam (3.2 m red lines) place joists for nailing the plywood.

How thick does the joist between the posts need to be? And how many and how big do the joists need to be from the house?

Grateful for any help I can get.

ps I never managed to get the image to show, so I added it as an attachment instead... ds

  • Diagram showing a house and terrace with two pillars. A beam spans 3.5m between the pillars (blue), with 3.2m spacing for additional beams (red) to the house.
Does anyone know if there are tables or similar where one can read recommended dimensions per type of material and length somewhere. I've searched a bit but haven't found anything, you don't want the roof to collapse when the first snow comes...

Moelven has a program for calculating glulam beams on their website. It might be something.
