We have bought a house from 1979 that has ceiling tiles/panel ceiling. We want the ceiling to be smooth and have received suggestions to take down the existing tiles and put up a gypsum ceiling or plaster the existing tiles. Of course, there is a big price difference, but is there something to consider? One builder said that ceiling tiles tend to start smelling bad, while the other builder said they have never experienced that. I would appreciate tips and advice!

  • Ceiling with white panels and a modern light fixture in a house from 1979; discussion about replacing or resurfacing the panels.
if the boards are 60 cm wide, it might be gipsplank you have, and I find it hard to believe that drywall would start to smell bad, possibly if there are heavy smokers in the house

Live in the house for a while and you'll come up with 50 things that are more important than a smooth ceiling :)

Loosen the ventilation unit and you can see there what material the boards are made of.
