Hi!
I recently moved out and encountered some problems with setting up curtains.
The curtain was hitting the upper windowsill, so I thought of putting a 9mm piece of wood between the wall and the curtain bracket so I could "move" the curtain out a bit. These are what I have where the anchor is 6x33mm and the screw is 4x40mm but realized that due to the 9mm piece of wood, the screw suddenly becomes 2mm shorter than the anchor instead of 7mm longer. I’ve understood through Google and this forum that the screw should be a few mm longer but are there exceptions to the rule? Thinking if it applies to more advanced things, if it could depend on the weight of the item (the curtain weighs 2.50kg)? Or do I just need to buy new things (thinking anchors that are 6x30mm and screws that are 4x45mm would work then)?
Also taking the opportunity to ask about the choice of anchor and screw since I believe the material in my wall is gypsum and concrete (my wood drill stopped drilling at about 28-29mm and then I used a concrete drill which worked fine). But what type of anchor and screw is best to use in this case since it's both gypsum and concrete?
Picture of how it looks above the window and the idea with the piece of wood (please disregard the garbage bags ).
Thanks!
If it feels like it’s secure, you can probably relax, even though your idea about a longer screw might be accurate. What you might consider is that it could loosen over time if it’s used and pulled on a lot, but probably not.
