Hi!
We have torn down a wall that was nailed against the chimney breast.
When we took down the wall, we found this groove in the chimney breast.
How would you repair it?
Just prime and apply plaster?
All tips are gratefully received!
Best regards, Dennis

  • A crack in a chimney wall with exposed bricks and plaster damage.
  • A gap in a masonry wall where a removed wall was attached, with exposed bricks and uneven plaster, needing repair advice.
Water abundantly and prune; it’s the simplest and cheapest.

Water generously first and then plaster?
Do I need to use a primer before?
About 2-2.5 cm plaster to apply in that groove.

The water works as a primer when plastering.

No primer needed, keep in mind that the plaster does not adhere to paint or wallpaper so scrape clean a bit on the sides, and remove any elevations, then it will go smoothly.

Cover the floor before you start, if you're inexperienced it usually gets a bit messy. But cover a substantial area around it so it will be easy to clean, just roll up the paper or plastic.

I'm going to remove all the wallpaper residues and the like, the idea is to have a fireplace there, so I'm going to clear away the wallpaper and all that and then paint all the plaster with some gray plaster-like color. Thank you for the help, we'll see how it goes with the plastering...
