Recently became a homeowner, and now it's time for renovations!!
I initially thought about hiring a company to skim coat all the walls and then have them painted...
But since I've knocked down a couple of walls and discovered that there seem to be different panel materials behind the current wallpaper, I've started to consider putting renovation gypsum on all the walls.
In that case, what's best, tearing off the current panel behind the wallpaper to the bare beams and putting the gypsum directly on them, or leaving the old panels and wallpaper and putting gypsum boards over them?
The boards behind the wallpaper consist of tretex and 6mm gypsum on top of that.
Was thinking about tearing all this down to the raw wood paneling and using regular 13mm gypsum (cheaper than 6), patch and paint?
If it's not ridiculously difficult to just remove the rotgips, I would probably do it, at least try to keep the tretex on the outer walls (it does have a certain insulating effect after all).
And if you keep the tretex, I would be careful about using rotgips since it can easily crack, standard gypsum board works fine.
But of course, it's fine to remove the tretex as well if you want to.
Hello, I have a similar problem as klockan8.
I am going to freshen up the living room and have tretex on three walls (the fourth has masonite).
My question is about the arguments for and against putting plasterboard on the walls.
If I choose plasterboard ... which should I take? 6 vs 13 mm? What is rotgips?
If I choose to keep the tretex ... do I need to use primer?
and finally a wallpaper question ... how and how much of the texture needs to be removed
