We have moved into a house from the 1920s where there is a chimney breast that has been painted over with black paint on the upstairs. I would preferably like to restore the original brick color, but is that even possible? The alternative is to paint it white, but what kind of paint should be used in that case? Or is it easier to apply plaster over the whole thing? What should we keep in mind if so? Currently, we are not using the fireplace as the chimney is not approved, but the idea is to use it relatively frequently once we have it fixed.
Bonus question: We would preferably like to install a door next to the chimney breast on the left. It tilts a bit, at the top the distance from the wall on the left to the chimney breast is 66 cm and at the bottom 71 cm. Is it even possible to fit a door frame against the chimney breast and how do you attach the frame to the chimney breast in that case?
