We have a small house with a basement and a barn quite close to the house. We are in urgent need of more space. We also have a limited budget (around 100000kr).
The house is divided into a small room upstairs that the children share. Sloping walls all around, raising the roof means a new roof and that will likely blow the budget right away.
The downstairs contains. Small hall, very small toilet, a kitchen, and a living room. As a heat source, we have an air heat pump on this floor.
The basement is partially furnished with a sauna and shower but awfully cold. No heating system down there at all and concrete floor.
The barn. Unfinished but a stable concrete foundation. The idea is in that case to build a hallway/corridor between the house and the barn.
What we would like is ideally 2 rooms and a toilet + mini shower as well.

seems easier with a basement - water and sewage are already there. Just need flooring and heating so maybe it will be easier to stay within the budget limit

If there is sewage and good insulation in the barn, I would prefer to live above ground ...
