A few years ago, I expanded the house. Now I would like a larger garage and to remove the original house's exterior wall and have a load-bearing beam instead, so the garage is double the size.
I know everything is possible.
But does this seem like an impossible project?
Does anyone have any idea about the price?
The blue part in the picture is what I want to remove.
Unfortunately, the information provided is not sufficient. Floor plans of the ground floors and details about the construction of the basement walls and ground decks are needed. The construction year of the original house can also be a useful piece of information.
Have you thought about outsourcing everything or can you imagine doing something yourself?
Outsourcing to a company with calculations and everything around it would probably cost at least 100k
Break up 2 holes in the floor, pour a foundation, buy 2 sturdy beams for posts chosen with Tibnor's handbook and common sense, the same with a longer one as a crossbeam, rent a prop, break down the wall, take it to the dump with a trailer, mount the beam, get help welding if you can't do it yourself, return the prop. 20k.
Tearing down the wall is absolutely no trouble to do yourself.
I have two friends who work as welders at a larger firm. They do a lot of new buildings, etc.
But how does it work? Are you allowed to do it entirely yourself if you have acquaintances and the knowledge?
Otherwise:
A firm comes out and temporarily supports it. And shows what they want me to do.
I tear down the wall and break up where they want.
They come back and set the beams and weld.
That shouldn't drive up the costs too much, right?
A crazy project.
My opinion is that tearing down walls only leads to deterioration.
There's hysteria in society; everything has to be bright white, and walls must be torn down at any cost.
Has it come to the point where concrete walls/basement foundations have to be taken down? Someone needs to say stop.
I am, of course, curious about how this ended.
