Hello,

We are going to remove our garbage cabinet as it's soon time for a kitchen renovation.
The garbage cabinet goes right through the wall, meaning you can dispose of waste from inside the kitchen, so it's insulated.

We have a brick facade but have decided to rebuild with wood paneling and possibly put some nice sheet metal on the outside.
The question now is how the wall construction should look. Is it enough to frame and put asfaboard, battens, and panel?
Then insulation, plastic, and drywall on the inside?

I was thinking of copying the wall construction when I tear down the cabinet and can see how it looks, but there should be an air gap inside the brick, right?

What a clever solution. Isn't it a shame to remove it? Maybe it doesn't fit with the new kitchen?
Imagine not having to take out the trash in the middle of winter :)

Yes, the solution is awesome, just lift a part of the countertop and there’s an insulated hatch there. Unfortunately, it doesn't fit in the new kitchen and today's sorting and bins mean you have to empty the cabinet yourself anyway, so now it has to go.

Ok. I probably would have done as you suggested. Do the same on the inside as the rest of the wall. There should be an air gap inside the brick.
I personally would have bricked up the hole if it was possible to get similar bricks, even if it doesn't match the rest of the facade 100%.
