We are going to remove an interior wall in a house from 1897. How can we find out what might be hidden in the wall? It's hard to believe that it's load-bearing. Should we hire a carpenter? Rent some camera? Grateful for help

It is not very common for construction drawings to exist for houses built in the 1890s.
But feel free to post a floor plan or sketch (provided when you bought the house or self-drawn), and we might be able to give advice! Photos of the wall, with or without surface layers, are helpful.
If you know an experienced (read "old") carpenter who has worked a lot with timber houses, they are also a reliable advisor!
