Remove door trim/frame – a huge job?
I'm renovating my apartment. The apartment is small and I need to maximize storage space. In the hallway, I plan to install Ikea's 36 cm deep pax wardrobes.
The problem is that there's only 30 cm between the wall and the start of the door trim. What I'd like to do is completely remove the door frame and have the opening plastered instead, which would give me an additional 10 cm since I won't have the door trim and the wardrobes will fit.
However, I'm totally inexperienced when it comes to stuff like this. Do you think it’s possible for me to do this myself? Will it become very uneven when I remove the door trim? The building was built in 1945, if that makes any difference, so I guess it’s brick or something similar around it.
Then I have to fill in all the uneven parts afterward. I'm patient and meticulous but as I said, I have 0 experience. Do you think this is too big of a job for me to tackle?
I found this link that has done exactly what I want to do: https://www.renoveringsbloggen.com/2012/08/30/oppen-karmlosning/
Do you think this sounds like a good approach?
Another question, if I instead hire a craftsman to handle this, what do you think the cost would be?
Sorry for my lack of knowledge and if I’ve used any wrong names for things, I hope you understand anyway.

Can't you post a picture of how it looks?M MelTH said:I'm renovating my apartment. The apartment is small and I need to maximize storage space. In the hallway, I'm thinking of installing Ikea's 36 cm deep PAX wardrobes.

One more question, if I were to bring in a craftsman to solve this instead, what do you think we're talking about price-wise?
Sorry for my lack of knowledge and if I've written incorrect names for anything, I hope you still understand.
I have removed my door trim in the hallway for the same reason as you, and it worked well for about 6 months until the right side where the door slams started to crack. Now it looks like this (see pictures). Hijacking your thread and asking for help; How do I fix this?
Also wondering; how did it go for you?
