Hello

I am expanding the garage. It will be 8.3 meters wide with a glulam beam in the ridge and standing 45 studs out toward the long walls where I will have a door. So, not regular roof trusses! I will only have 200mm in height above the door, and the width of the door will be 3m. What kind of beam should I use? The wall studs will be 145mm.

Regards, Björn

Wooden frame construction with trusses and scaffolding on a building site, featuring engineered wood and beams, under a partly cloudy sky.

That's how I build. I also have the same truss design as you with 10.4 m laminated timber with loose 325mm wood as trusses.

Used 42' 180mm laminated timber over the door.

Thank you!

So, a 180 high glulam should be enough to support the weight?
I was considering using a steel beam myself.

Ok, thanks!

Then IPE 150 or 160 should be enough for me, right?!?

Does anyone have a different opinion that an IPE150 can handle the roof load?
