We are building a garage with Y-tong and will have two garage doors on the long side, so we need two beams for this. We have two U-beams from Y-tong in which we will cast reinforcement in concrete. The question now is how we dimension the reinforcement. The idea is four 12mm reinforcing bars, two at the top and two at the bottom with stirrups of 8mm reinforcing bars. How close should the stirrups be placed and will this hold? The door opening will be 2.4m.

Everything depends on whether you are going to have an upper floor on the garage. The "byglarna" or as they are called: the baskets can be placed with c/c 40 cm, and if you have 4 "tolvor" in 2 planes, I think that should be more than sufficient. To be safe, call Ytong and ask what they think about that reinforcement. I assume you will cast an unbroken full-length beam for both doors.
