I will reinforce existing roof trusses by nailing 45x220 mm beams onto the existing 50x170 mm beams. Partly to accommodate more insulation and also to be able to move out the support legs.

Can someone advise me on how closely I should nail the new 45x220 beams? Should it be very tight (like every decimeter) or at longer intervals?

Regards,
Ulrik

My advice is to use 100mm screws - drill through the first beam with a drill slightly smaller than the diameter of the screw and use a very powerful screwdriver (I used a drill :) ) - it holds really well. I placed the screws in "pairs" with a 30 cm distance plus wood glue between the beams.
