Recommendations for rotten wood in pillars
Hello!
The front is in need of renovation.
Now to the question: the pillar on the left has 5 cm deep and 15 cm high rotten wood, i.e., the wood is soft and there is a hole in the pillar.
What do you think is the best solution and renovation?
Is there any way to save it, i.e., fill it with some material, or will the entire pillar need to be replaced? Thank you in advance!

Personally, I would have replaced the column; it doesn't have to be difficult at all, and if you're handy, you can fix it yourself.
The column supports the roof above the entrance, and if a column rots, there's a risk it might break, causing the roof to collapse. And if you're unlucky, part of the facade might come down with it, or someone could get hurt.
So the choice is yours if you want to cosmetically fill it in and hope it holds or replace the post and have peace of mind.

Thank you for your response, yes exactly, the reason is likely due to your description and peeling because of age and sun.BengtH said:
Thanks for the response and comment! Yes, it will likely be a complete renovation. But I want to explore the possibilities first, do you know if it's possible to just replace the damaged wood, i.e., the 20-30 cm lower part? Or is it better to replace the whole column?R RalleB said:I personally would replace the column, it doesn't have to be difficult at all, and if you're handy, you can do it yourself.

I recently did a similar operation at home. Buy or borrow a prop to temporarily hold up the ceiling: https://www.hornbach.se/shop/Stamp-160-290cm-max-1800kg/5069983/artikel-detaljer.html
And remove the pillar to put a new one in place with tjärpapp or similar against the concrete.
