Hello!

I got an unpleasant surprise today when the sink in the bathroom decided to detach from the wall, probably after the kids had been hanging on it.
I discovered that those who installed the sink attached one screw with a plastic plug and the other directly into the drywall (no OSB or similar behind it), so it was probably only a matter of time before it fell down.

Now to the question: Can I reattach it without having to make new holes and move it? If so, how?

This is how it looks now:
Two drilled holes in a bathroom wall after a sink fell; one hole larger, showing surrounding damage, indicating improper installation with drywall plugs.

I was thinking of using metal expanders, and the right hole is no problem; it's the right size. But the left one, where the plug was, is so big that it swallows the entire expander, and I'm unsure if it's possible to find a larger one (tried with 6E).

Anyone have a good idea?

Is it possible to maybe place a thin (larger) washer on the left one so it doesn't go into the hole:thinking:

Anchor.

But is that really gypsum? Looks like chipboard.

Yes, it's gypsum, it might be the color that's misleading (painted in some flamingo-pink color).

Do anchor bolts work despite the diameter of the hole? Maybe it's an idea to fill it and drill a new one for a bit better stability.

Edit: just found https://trappbutiken.se/products/in..._content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic which requires a drill diameter of 19mm, so it definitely seems to work with large holes.

At first, I thought there must be "better" solutions than this since it involved putting a washer outside the expansion plug, which felt strange. However, I gave up and tried it, and yes, it works fine! Sometimes the simplest solution is the best...

Thanks!
