Hi everyone! A beginner's question here!
I'm thinking of re-cladding my dad's house... he currently has a roughly 30-year-old wooden facade on most of the house... looks terrible... I'm now considering tearing off all the wooden facade and cladding it with something concrete-like... does anyone know what one could choose that isn't CRAZY EXPENSIVE to use... it seems like there is something called YTONG and LECA (iso) blocks... are those the only options available? And what would YOU recommend... would be nice to have a price picture per square meter as well... then you'd probably have to render or plaster it...

Yes, it might be a bit vague... but I'm trying... hope to get some answers anyway!
Best regards, Claes

Thou shalt not blaspheme!!

A wooden house is a wooden house is a wooden house and should remain so.

If the house hasn't been painted with children's watercolor, I guess there's nothing wrong with the wood in the facade planks. Why not spend a few days removing old paint and repainting with a pleasant new color? 30 years is nothing for a wooden facade! It's probably also the cheapest solution you can find.

Mathias

the house is located by the coast... the wood is worn and cracked! and you have to repaint the house every 4-5 years because salt and the like bleach the color away... Falu red has turned into some kind of red-pink hue... at exposed points... so you could say that the house has two different colors, the original color and the color that has become after weather and wind have done their job! sure, it would be possible to re-clad the facade, but I feel it would be uneconomical since it still requires a lot of maintenance anyway!

Best regards, Claes

I have an aluminum facade though... neighbors who have lived next door for 10 years have thought it was wood all these years until I pointed it out to them ;)

but well, it will be removed the day I'm done with the upper floor....

vertical wood paneling with repainting every 10 years looks so much nicer :)

(just repainted the summer house this weekend, and it’s fresher with wood)

Cheapest from a maintenance point of view would probably be...  aluminum facade  :-X :-[  :'( yuck.

In that case, I have a better suggestion.

The world's best facade material - I have a large pile on the property that I sell to the highest bidder:

E T E R N I T !!!

hehe... world's best material ;D

just a small problem ???

is it allowed to "build new" with it today? even if it's used material?

(have it on the garage roof and workshop myself, super happy :D )

In my experience, it costs 1:65 per kilo including VAT to get rid of eternit. That is, only landfill fees, handling, and transport are additional.

I actually don't think you can build new constructions with this material anymore.

Regarding landfill (there's some old thread about this), there are three stations in Stockholm (Värmdö, Gladö + one more) where you can drop off asbestos cement. It costs about 800SEK per ton there. Additionally, there is a recycling center in Fittja where you can drop off asbestos cement for free (this seems to be the station that God forgot).
