This might be completely misplaced.

I live in an apartment. In my kitchen, on the same wall and side where I have the countertop and such, there is a big white wall where I would like to put up a shelf. When you knock on the wall, it feels like knocking on drywall.

I've inquired on another forum, which advised against "using" the wall, as it could be a fire wall – which would lose its function if I made holes in it.

What I had in mind is to put up a small shelf using drywall anchors. Can I do that, or is it outright forbidden? Are there risks?

What is on the other side of the wall? Does the wall go all the way through the entire building?
