We have a house with paintings painted directly on the wall. We cannot remove them to preserve them as they are load-bearing walls, and the intervention would be too extensive. We will keep some, but several we want to cover to be able to put things on the walls. Considering either construction plywood or råspont. Preferably want råspont, but can you attach things like lamps, etc., to just that? Do not want to screw into the painting behind…

Depending on the material/color of the paintings etc, it is good to attach archival-quality cloth/paper between the image and the covering board/wall.

I hadn't thought of that at all, so thank you very much! We will certainly do that. I'll start googling right away :)

Maybe it's enough to have an air gap in between?

That's right, that's also an idea! It's difficult because you don't want it to stick out too far, but it does mean you don't risk screwing into the paintings. Thanks!
