Pre-drill and countersink French wood screw

Hello!
I am going to countersink a French wood screw 8x40mm and I wonder
1) what size flat drill bit I should use to countersink the screw head
2) what size drill bit I should use for pre-drilling?

check the appropriate socket in your socket wrench set, measure the diameter and choose a slightly larger drill ... pre-drill for the screw itself with a drill of slightly smaller diameter than the screw itself...

Can also be suitable with a washer if you need to tighten hard.
