Hello

Thanks for all the tips here in the thread! I have a question that I can't find a good answer to and wonder if some kind person can help.

I'm going to build a pergola about 3*4 m, which will stand on a terrace on the 5th floor with 45*145 beams standing (needs to be very stable). It will be placed on decking and fastened down into a concrete slab under the decking.

I would like to use 4 pressure-treated glue-laminated posts 115*115 as pillars for stability and a bit for design, and I've been looking for a suitable post base with support in all directions. The posts will also get some lateral support from a railing.

The closest I found is this 97*97 at Bauhaus, but then I need to mill out a part of the posts at the bottom. Does anyone know if it's possible to find something equivalent for 115*115 or if you have any other good ideas?

  • Metal post base for wooden beams, square design with multiple bolt holes, suitable for structural support on terraces, 97x97 size.

I think it sounds very large with that dimension. I assume you will have these as pillars?
Reduce the size so it fits the post shoe. You won't have any weights on the pergola, so the dimension will be more than enough.
And if you mean treated wood, then it's probably not glulam in 90x90. Treated 90x90 tends to twist.

You can also place four corner brackets around a post of the desired dimension.

How is the deck floor constructed?

I used a 115x115 post for our pergola, but I lowered it under the decking and attached it with angle brackets to the floor joist.

Bad picture but you get it :D

Outdoor patio with decking, pergola, swing, and seating area under a cloudy sky. Fence and neighboring houses visible in the background.
