If it hasn't been swept in two years, it's definitely time to call the chimney sweep again. You'll also get an idea of the general condition of the chimney if you take the opportunity to ask. Definitely start there.
Thanks, that sounds good. The sweep should hopefully have some experience with chimneys too.

I'll start there!

Well, for a fireplace with less frequent use, it can be longer intervals. For us, it's every third year and is more than sufficient according to those who clean it, considering our usage of about 1.5 cubic meters.
And the inspection, if I remember correctly, is done at 8-year intervals, but I might have missed that as I only have one report.

Do you mean that the chimney looks like it can handle it, and more precisely what is a heavy fireplace?
You don't think one should have one of those modern wood stoves, you mean?

One wants to be able to light a fire in a cold stove too, it should just work. Drives me crazy that the smoke comes in.
Well... Now I was mostly thinking about the foundation.
Just the heavy oven in my case, to store heat for half a day or more, weighs 1800 kg.
You'll have to read the posts again ;)

I personally burn 15 cubic meters of thrown wood a year.

But if you burn less often, not for the heat but for the coziness, then go for a flue fan.
Run it as long as you need with fire, until you get the draft up.

For your kind of burning, a light stove is enough. Steel or cast iron. For example, the one you already have.
You definitely get more coziness with a glass door.

The chimney sweep here invites themselves every year for sweeping both the fireplace and the wood boiler. It might have to do with the fact that it's just as well to clean both at once, but cleaning is indeed needed in the fireplace's flue, and we don't burn that badly.

They are the experts. Among other things, they are the ones who pressure test to check for leaks and who must approve renovations. So whatever you plan to do with the fireplace, the chimney sweep will visit sooner or later.

The chimney sweep assesses the situation and it could be every year or every third year, depending on the need and use of the stove.

Swedish table showing chimney sweeping intervals: 1 year for main heating/fireplace use, 3 years for less frequent use or fireplaces in holiday homes.

I find that our new Cortura stove is very easy to kindle and quickly burns well as it preheats the air. The larger and older kedddy stove needs to be burned for a while and get properly warm to achieve the same draft and combustion.
You should connect the intake air directly to the stove.

Thanks, then it will probably be a new stove and chimney later!
