I am going to install new crown moldings throughout the house and have been considering wood for a long time, but now I've also started thinking about polystyrene moldings after reading that these are supposed to be much easier to install.

Is this true? Are they easier to fit at corners? Do they look as "good" as wood? Are they easier to mount?

It has been a long time since I saw crown moldings in styrofoam at any store.
I remember it feeling weak, so it must be very fragile, hard to imagine the final result will be better.

Available at both Bauhaus and Byggmax as early results when searching for ceiling mouldings, so it seems there are quite a few of them anyway.

I don't like plastic and fake, but polystyrene crown moldings are really good - especially if you have walls that are difficult to attach to, e.g. plaster. Additionally, they are a little flexible and accommodate movement if the ceiling and wall shift slightly in relation to each other.

Available at larger paint stores, e.g. Flügger.

There you see, seems to be online orders only at Byggmax.
I am personally phasing out ceiling moldings so honestly, I don't keep track anymore :)

I myself am phasing out ceiling moldings gradually so I honestly don't keep track anymore :)
I have a large (ugly) gap between the ceiling and the wall that needs to be covered, so I don't have much choice. :)

Available at Beijer too. Have such in a bathroom that was renovated just before we bought our house. Never thought about what material it was until one day I touched it.:)

hi,

in our house, the previous owner put up untreated ceiling moldings in styrofoam, and it looks okay. An acquaintance who bought similar moldings spray-painted theirs with some cheap Biltema paint, theirs looks much better imo, so I recommend some form of treatment for the appearance.

Yes, ours are painted.

Styrofoam: is that the stuff that burns so well?

Works super well, I painted mine with a radiator roller, then mounted them with acrylic sealant, could combine mounting and sealing in one.

Works fine!
Assemble - join - paint them at the same time as the ceiling and with the same color!

Search terms for better/more results should be cellplast and xps since some people don't use the brand name Frigolit as a search word.
That being said, I bought a bunch of those many years ago to put in the ceiling of my then apartment, but they just ended up lying around and when I then moved, they ended up in the trash room...
