Hi, I'm in the process of installing a ventilated floor but have come across several different (troublesome) options regarding the insulation itself.
I had originally planned for underfloor heating in routed foam insulation since we will have an active ventilated floor anyway. Then I looked at alternative ways to increase insulation and saw that XPS with equivalent specs could be installed between the floor joists.
My question is really, do you want foam insulation in the floor considering the fire risk? I saw some evaluation of different insulation materials that you shouldn’t even have indoors in this American clip

Doesn't feel so "Swedish" to shove thick foam boards into the floor in a basement after that.
There is no "fire risk" with foam plastic in the floor.
If the house starts burning so intensely that even the floors burn, the house will burn down regardless of whether you have foam plastic or something else in the floor.
The important thing is that the surface layers are not unnecessarily flammable.
I don't know much about fire protection. But surely it could make a big difference in the course of a fire if the filling in the floor is flammable or not. I agree that the house is likely quite destroyed if the fire goes so far as to burn through the floor, but it should make a difference in getting survivors out.

XPS didn't burn when he tested it???
It only melted, so it's certainly not a great fire protection barrier. But that's not how it's used, right?

That might be a bit generalizing. A relative experienced a fire in a multi-family house with wooden beams.
He noticed the smell of smoke. Opened the door, was met by a wall of flames. The entire stairwell was like a blowtorch. Fire in the apartment on the ground floor, the door had been left open after evacuation.
He then tried to wait for the fire department by the window. But when the flames came up through the floor and the apartment door, he had to jump from the second floor. The fire department arrived about half a minute later. He managed to cling to facade details, so it was only a free fall of about 2 meters.

I agree - you still want to know what is common sense and building practice, so you don't do something worse while trying to renovate. Also thinking about gas emissions, etc.
This is also for a basement where we plan to have bedrooms for guests and teenagers, etc.

I think it did burn, though slightly less, EPS didn't burn - but it doesn't insulate as well. Floré boards are also in XPS. I was also thinking about fumes etc.

Just adding this link to Boverket - as a reference to building practices for this. I imagine it is relatively safe to use this in a ventilated floor. BV also recommends that you delimit with a fire-insulating "barrier" (or something like that) - so if you then plan to have tiles on top of this, it should be safer than laminate/wood flooring.
Perhaps one can also review the escape routes to ensure they are sufficient, especially in older houses where it might not have been considered.
