I have built up basement walls on my extension with leca. Now to my question: According to maxit, the leca should be covered with rödgrund below ground. I will be installing isodrän boards and wonder if I can cover the leca with regular mortar B instead. Or regular standard cement with 0-4mm sand in a thin layer. What would you prefer???

My 70-year-old mason doesn't think anything is needed, but it feels like it should be covered with something...

Mortar contains lime. Does it matter? It seems that a thin concrete layer absorbs less moisture.

What do you say???

Grateful for answers...

I think you're right. But I'm just a happy amateur in this. However, I live in a house with a basement made of concrete block that is plastered on the outside (and has moisture problems).

I bricked up a basement garage this summer using leca, then I "plastered" the part of the foundation that was above ground and coated with mortar-B below ground... then I drained with platon, etc. I would recommend coating... mine was on the exterior of the foundation, so I applied asphalt primer and a rubber membrane ~50cm from the bottom of the foundation (at the ledge) and up... but that's included in the platon drainage kit...
Regards,
M
