Yes, I know this has been gone over a thousand times here on the forum, with two strong camps...

BUT, I'm only interested in the wall's durability if I use smooth fabric or not directly on the plaster. If the house shifts, etc., that's been debated many times. Has anyone tried skipping the fabric and had to redo it, or vice versa, is there anyone who has skipped the fabric and after many years of heavy use, there are still no blemishes on the walls?

Thanks in advance!

We have just added about 50sqm, where we have focused on smooth gypsum walls in all rooms. I myself have two small children aged 1 and 4, so it might not be entirely optimal from that perspective. However, many say that new wooden houses (and presumably extensions) tend to crack in the corners during the first two years, so we’ll have to see if the walls hold up. Otherwise, it's just a matter of doing some plastering and repainting.

I think it sounds like an idea, putty/sand/putty/sand and then paint, if it turns out to be less durable than hoped, one can reconsider later.

Thanks for the input.
