Hello,
I have a chimney wall where almost all the plaster has come off. I'm thinking of trying to remove everything and plaster it again to get an even surface to put tiles on. The house is old, so it's probably lime plaster or something, but it probably doesn't matter if I remove everything.

Now to my question, is plaster mix C workable? There will also be a waterproof layer on the plaster. I need to fill unevenness of about 1-3 cm to make it flat enough.

I'm also starting to consider gypsum mortar to be able to build sufficiently directly so I don't have to wait between layers. Has anyone tried applying waterproofing/tiles on it?

Not waterproofing but tiles in the kitchen on the chimney. I leveled it with gypsum mortar and then primer, adhesive, and tiles. I was recommended this by the chimney sweep.
Easy to work with for a beginner and good results.

I'm probably trying gypsum plaster, I've never plastered anything before. Do you have any tips or pitfalls you want to warn about?

In this thread, you can see how it turned out.

Since part of the kitchen wall was particle board, I glued 6mm renovation plasterboard to the board so that it aligned with the chimney.
I realized after plastering that I wanted an overlap on the gluing against the chimney. I drilled a bunch of shallow holes and chipped away the plasterboard to create a 1dm rebate. I glued the board with plaster.
A wall section with renovation plasterboard glued to chipboard, showing drilled holes for reinforcement; a kitchen countertop with tools and a duct visible.

And this is what it looks like now.
White tiled kitchen wall with stove and cabinets; visible DIY renovations, including an exhaust hole, alongside patterned floor tiles.

Looks really nice! I will read the thread, many thanks!

The plaster we used in the apartment felt very brittle. Now in the house, we are using KC C instead and it seems to hold better.
So I would recommend KC but someone else should probably decide what is most suitable for you.
