Hello!

I'm soon going to install a gypsum ceiling, and at one end of the room, the ceiling will end against a plastered brick wall. The desire is not to have a crown molding, but the question is, can it be done nicely? - and if so, how do you handle the joint between the gypsum and the plastered surface? Is it just filler and folded joint tape? (The plastered wall will be completely smoothed out.)

Thanks for your response! :)

Hi! Yes, it can look nice if you want. Is the plastered wall uneven? I thought maybe you need to "profile" the drywall. In that case, you should start drywalling from the other side of the room, then on the second-to-last sheet row make marks at about c/c 100 and then measure what you have left from the sheet edge to the wall. Then take the sheet to be mounted, measure the same c/c distance, and mark the measurements you had left to the wall on the sheet and cut/saw along the markings.

I would probably go for either latex or silicone that is paintable. I think there's less tendency for it to crack then.

The idea is that the wall should be even before the ceiling is placed, but it is arched (round staircase on the other side of the wall, so part of it is a niche), so there will be some form of measuring as you say.

Cool, now I know how to proceed. Many thanks!
