Hello
I need to touch up around the fireplace. The plaster application will be about 20 mm.
I believe the chimney was originally plastered with a lime mortar. (The house is from the 1800s). Later, it was plastered over with a cement-based mortar. It's a very thin layer with the cement-based mortar.
Now that I'm going to plaster again, can I use C-mortar? It might be better to use KC or pure lime mortar, but I have C-mortar at home.

What do you think?

Best regards, Kristoffer

Oh dear, it looks like you have a through crack that should be reviewed. Or what happened here?

It is a superficial crack in the outer layer of plaster.

Wondering where all the soot is coming from? Or is it something else black?

It's probably that the water I've used has soaked in more there. It looks like a superficial crack anyway, and it's been there as long as I've had the house (10 years) and the chimney sweep has never said anything.

Run the scrub brush or high-pressure washer properly.
Otherwise, nothing works. Use c bruk if you have it.
Kalkbruk works just as well.

Thanks for the tips. Primed and applied a net.
Hope it suffices.

So it is already netted, plastered, and finished?
Would love to see a picture.

Poor lighting.
I had planned to extend the plastered section 10 mm from the rest of the wall but lost the motivation somewhere along the way. 😆 Plastered wall partially unfinished, with poor lighting, showing a vent opening and construction tools in the foreground.

Is it good to hang plastic against it to keep the moisture in?
I plan to water it daily for five days from what I've read.

Looks good, but quite dark mortar.
What kind of mortar have you used for plastering?

Finished plastering tonight, so that's probably why it looks dark. It's c-mortar. What do you think about the plastic?

Plastic is used on concrete when it has been cast.
But if it is c compound with lime in it, then you should water it afterwards a bit. Preferably with a larger plant spray, since it is indoors. Do you have the technical name of your c compound?

A few days late, but it's good to keep it moist for a few days. Haven't used that mortar, but it seems okay.
