What looks best in a small room of 2.4 x 1.6 meters, to follow the lengthwise direction or the direction of the light?

  • White front door with a round light fixture and wooden ceiling in an entryway under renovation.
If you have a long and narrow room, I recommend laying ceiling panels and any parquet across, as this breaks the corridor (long and narrow) feeling.

You mean from between the window on the right in the picture to the doorway on the left, opposite to how the råspont is currently positioned.

Exactly. I believe otherwise the recommendation is along the direction of the light, and it will be the same direction in your room.

Exactly. The main rule is to lay parquet boards and ceiling panels along the direction of incoming light. But there are exceptions to every rule. In most cases, they are laid along the longest side of the room. However, since the window is positioned on the long side and you generally want narrow spaces to appear a bit wider or more square, in this case, it is more appropriate to stick to the main rule.

Complicated, right?

Another advantage of placing the panel crosswise is that if we want to install paneling in the inner hall, it will be oriented in the same direction as in the outer hall.

Another plus is that it's possible to get exactly 2 lengths from the panel, which is 330cm/board.

Here is the result.

  • Renovated hallway with two large windows, a round ceiling light, and a wooden shoe rack beneath. View of green trees outside.
  • Renovated entryway with white paneled walls, a modern light fixture, and a wooden door with a small window. Natural light from side window enhances space.
