White ceiling with visible panel joints in a room with wall clock and chandelier; potential renovation discussion about leveling and repainting.
Going to replace the ceiling but believe it is crooked and wavy.
If you now want to measure and see if it's crooked and wavy, is it easiest with a laser measurer or just leave everything as is and frame up new under the old and go from there? Was thinking of having painted white wood paneling as the new ceiling.

you're losing ceiling height if you just build on.

Yes, so true. I have 2.48 in ceiling height today

What is above and what kind of panel do you have?

Hello. Today it's ceiling panels made of Tretex, I think it's called. Above that is the usual tongue-and-groove ceiling used as subflooring for the beams.

Since it is an intermediate floor and you don't risk puncturing any differential lock, I would clearly tear down the ceiling; I always strive to leave as little old junk as possible.

That it is wavy can be the treetex hanging down in waves, the wooden ceiling might be straighter.
