Hi.
I'm moving to a new apartment. I plan to mount a TV on the wall (60"), it's a plasterboard wall but I'm worried it will give way. So I thought about cutting a hole perhaps 1.5 m wide and 1 m high in the plaster and putting a wooden board there. Now to my question,

do I need to reinforce the studs? (metal),

what kind of board should I use? The plaster is probably 13mm thick.

Is it possible to just fill in the seams?

How do I prevent swelling or cracking at the edges where plaster and wood meet? I will wallpaper over it later but thought of priming.

Final question, will it work or should I just drop the idea?

Best regards, Bob

Why not just attach a plywood board painted in an appropriate color and large enough for the TV mount on top of the current drywall. As long as the plywood board spans a couple of studs with enough screws, it should be sufficient, and the board will be hidden by the TV anyway. The forces from the TV are mostly shearing unless you have a mount that you can pull out from the wall.

We thought about them, though we would preferably want it in the wall, so it looks like it's on the actual wall.

The spackling will probably crack at all the joints, so to make it perfect you need to plaster the entire wall after tearing down and putting up the plywood, use renovation plasterboard 6mm.

Okay, thank you for the help

But don't you think it's possible to put that kind of mesh over the seams? Then if there are cracks under the wallpaper, will they show through? Because I realized it becomes tricky to make the wall thicker, due to the baseboards, as the measurements won't match.

With some real drywall anchors, it will definitely hold. How much does it weigh? 25kg?
Buy a mount for the TV where the track is quite wide so you can use many anchors.

2 moly plugs are enough for 100 kg on gibs. Does your TV weigh more than 100 kg?

Thanks for the answers, but I will probably follow Jonatan's. Because I have inquired a bit at work (a construction site) and they are skeptical about drywall anchors, I also have bad experiences with drywall anchors when they forgot to reinforce behind large radiators.
