Hello!

We are potential buyers of a split-level house with a concrete foundation. To realize our ideas, we need to move the front door from one short side of the house to the other.

How is this done?
Do we break open the hole, cut with a stone saw, or what is the procedure?
If I've made the hole and find it's too big and not straight, what happens then? :P
Do you pour concrete around the door frame?

By the way, is it naive to think that one can renovate a bathroom for about 50,000 if you do a lot yourself, except for the moisture barrier..?

Best regards,

Yes, basically you cut with a stone slab and then chip out the concrete. You'll probably need to cut from both the inside and outside, so first draw how you will cut on one side and then drill 2 holes in each corner to avoid precise measurements on the other side.

I would say it's impossible to mess up the hole so much that you have to pour concrete after you've cut. You put a foder over the frame to cover the allowance. That is, of course, assuming you know the size of the door.

You should check the exact placement of the door with a structural engineer to ensure the strength isn't compromised.

50,000 sounds like a pretty reasonable budget for a bathroom as long as you're not planning to install an extremely expensive jacuzzi.
