Hello,

We have installed a new indoor door in our habitable basement. Now it's time to add moldings, and this generally works well on one side, but on the other side, it's more difficult as the doors are situated in small arches. That is, the wall is 2-3 times wider than the door frame.

For other doors in the basement, molding has been added on one side and some type of white caulking on the other side.

An alternative to this is to use triangular moldings or perhaps caulking strips instead of applying caulk?

Here are some pictures of the frame we have replaced (i.e. molding on one side and some type of white-painted caulk on the other side):

If you are skilled at applying sealant, you can do it; latex sealant will suffice, and it can be painted on. Alternatively, there are options like a slightly rounded quarter-round, a wooden strip that covers, or whatever you think fits and paint it with sealant. First, backfill with something, e.g., insulation, otherwise a lot of sealant may be needed when it's deep. There are also foam strips for filling.
