Hello
I have a newly built stone house with an adjoining garage.
The garage consists of an insulated slab with underfloor heating, plastered leca walls (190) blocks, and 300cm loose fill insulation in the attic.
I originally planned to use it as a cold garage, but it's been about 10-15 degrees there.
This winter and the last, there has been a lot of mold on the walls, especially above the doors.
I understand that the 190 leca blocks are too weak, causing condensation on the inside when it drops below -10, which likely leads to mold.
Should I just turn off the heat and use it as a cold garage next winter, or is there another way to solve this??

Yes, 190 mm Leca is not much insulation. You would ideally need to insulate on the outside, but you probably don't want to/can't do that? Since it’s a garage, and attached to the house, it’s not entirely easy to add insulation on the inside, but it should be possible. It is extremely important that it becomes completely 110% moisture-proof so you don't get the same condensation against the Leca, but inside the wall if additional insulation is added. Metal studs.

Do you use it as a garage or for something else?

If it is used as a garage, you can achieve good comfort in the car with an engine and cabin heater, instead of heating the garage.

No, the exterior is out of the question for additional insulation because it is flush with the house.
I have also considered 95 metal studs and insulation, but isn't there a risk of condensation inside the wall?
What do you mean by moisture-proof?
The best might be to build with one more small leca block on the inside and then new plaster on it? just a hell of a job

Wow, nice garage, congratulations!

Have you checked the humidity when you've parked the car inside during winter? With only 2 vents (=natural ventilation) there might not be much ventilation. I guess it would be better if you installed some mechanical exhaust!

I mostly have concrete hollow blocks in my garage walls (i.e., worse than leca) and I haven't noticed any condensation on the inside. (also attached to the house and 5-10+ in winter). However, it feels like the car dries better after I installed a small fan in the ceiling.

Exactly, the building plastic must be completely sealed to avoid moisture inside the wall. If the wall is tightly plastered on the outside, it might not be possible to insulate with fiber & studs since it would create two vapor barriers in the wall.
In that case:
The best might be to build with a smaller Leca block on the inside and then new plaster on that? just a lot of work

Do you have two winter-wet cars in the garage, since it gets so humid?
