Hello!

Condition: Cannot remove the baseboard.

Question: What is the smartest way to miter the baseboard at 45 degrees in the corner without removing the baseboard? I have tried with a multi-tool but it doesn't reach.

Highly grateful for suggestions! :)

Corner of a room with a wooden floor and white baseboard, discussing how to miter a 45-degree angle in the baseboard without removing it.

Best regards,

Can you take a picture of what you are going to saw?

It's not the same profile on the old one as the new one, right?

In your case, I would have profiled the new molding so that it fits the old one. So you don't need to cut the old molding at all.

If I remember correctly, Dave13 says above, it's called "kroppa" the list.

It's called "formsåga," if I remember correctly? I think I read it in Gudmundsson's book on building conservation that "before they came up with this method, people didn't realize they had ever done it differently"... ;)

A beloved child has many names? =)

I would probably say that this particular child is called "Förkroppa" http://www.byggoteknik.se/forkroppa-lister
It works best if the moldings are identical but in this case, I would probably think it is most appropriate.

Thanks for the tip, sounds like a much better idea!

I saw that you also had written after I posted! :)

As the moldings do not have the same profile, I had measured the angle on the old one, cut that angle on the new one to the profile. There I had mitered at 45 degrees. With a chisel, I had mitered to the molding's profile.
That gives a tight corner.
